Virtual Trauma Awareness within PBIS 

*Note: Virtual Trainings take place through Zoom; it is not required to attend with anyone face to face during the COVID-19 Shelter in Place directive.


Participants will learn basic information about trauma, understand how trauma influences our stress response and impacts brain development. Additionally, participants will leave understanding the big picture of where trauma informed practices fit within a three-tiered framework and interested in learning about setting up routines in the classroom for regulation, relationships and self-awareness.

Who Should Participate

Any individual including teachers, family members, administrators, mental health professionals, clinicians, social workers, psychologists, or other school personnel.  District and school-based teams are also welcome to participate in the training as a group.  




Objectives

  • Know how trauma informed practices fit within a three-tiered framework
  • Articulate the definition of trauma
  • Describe the stress response and what it could look like in the classroom
  • Describe "downstairs brain" and provide examples
  • Know the importance of setting up routines in the classroom for regulation, relationships, and self-awareness
  • Understand the 3 R's (regulate, relate, reason) when interacting with youth
